Abstract:
Protective helmet with Visor including a component named "Visor Trim" between the helmet Shell and the Visor with the Visor in close position. The Visor Trim covers both the front opening perimeter of the Shell and the visor mechanism perimeter. This configuration offers an isolation condition all along the Visor perimeter, including the visor mechanism area, when the Visor is in close position.

Claims:

C L A I M S

1.- Protective helmet (1) including a shell (2) with at least one opening (3), a visor (4), a visor connecting device (5), such connecting device consents visor opening and closing in a way that the visor (4) is confronted with the shell opening

(3) in its close configuration. A protective helmet including also a trim (6) designed to be in the middle between such shell (2) and such visor (4) in the close visor position, such trim (6) characterised by the fact that at least one part of the trim (6) runs along the shell opening perimeter (7) and the connector device perimeter (8), thus, providing full isolation all along the visor (4) perimeter with the visor in close position.

2.- Helmet (1) following claim 1 , characterized by the fact that at least one such trim (6) is solidly connected to such shell (2) and to such visor connecting devices (5).

3.- Helmet (1) following any of the above claims, characterised by the fact that includes a first recess (7a) along such shell opening perimeter (7) for at least one such trim (6).

4.- Helmet (1) following any of the above claims, characterised by the fact that includes a second recess (δa) along such connecting devices perimeter (8) for at least one such trim (6).

5.- Helmet (1 ) following any of the above claims, with such trim (6) being a single peace running along the shell opening perimeter (7) and continues along such visor connecting devices perimeter (8).

6.- Helmet (1 ) following any of the claims 1 to 4, characterised by the fact that at least one such trim (6) includes at least one first string (6a) that runs along the shell opening perimeter (7) and a second string (6b) running along the visor connecting devices perimeter (8), the second string split from the first one by the discontinuity points (11, 12).

7.- Helmet (1) following claim 6, characterised by the fact that such second trim string (6b) runs along part of the profile of the visor connecting devices perimeter (8).

8.- Helmet (1 ) following claim 6, characterised by the fact that such second trim string (6b) runs all along the visor connecting devices perimeter (8).

9.- Helmet (1 ) following claim 6, characterised by the fact that such first trim string (6a) runs all along the shell opening perimeter (7), including the opening side edge (3c) between the top edge (3a) and the bottom edge (3b) of such helmet opening (3).

10.- Helmet (1) following claim 6, characterised by the fact that such first trim string (6a) is composed of two different sectors, one following the opening top edge (3a) and the second following the opening bottom edge (3b), finishing both sectors in the discontinuity points (11, 12).

Description:

D E S C R I P T I O N

"Helmet with visor full perimeter isolation"

The present invention is about a protective helmet with a Visor Trim between

Shell and Visor offering a great isolation around the Visor perimeter.

As known, the protective helmets, for example for motorcyclist, basically include a Shell developed to protect the users head from accidental crashes, and a transparent component named "Visor" that offers a high degree of protection to face without limiting vision and/or the field of vision. In particular, the visor protects the user eyes, both in a crash and from rain, from insects, dust and any other external body that could impact the users face during driving.

The Shell strength and structure, as known, are adapted to be able to absorb the impact energy during crash, also in the area where it's located the Visor Mechanism.

On the hand, part of the Visor strength is given by the quality of the Visor assembly to the Shell. Such assembly is often given by Visor connection devices to the Shell that allows also the Visor open and close, working basically like hinges.

Therefore, the Visor is basically hinged to the helmet on the Visor extremes. The visor is aligned and shaped onto the helmet front part named "chin-guard". In order to absorb the tolerance between the Shell and Visor in the close position, there usually is a trim, normally running all along the shell opening perimeter.

The visor presses the visor trim, being this pressure enough to ensure an efficient closing from the point of view of visor stability and from the point of view of protection against foreign bodies infiltration like wind, dust or rain.

This, the mostly used solution today, has also some disadvantages.

It's in fact easy to understand, for example, that the assembling areas for the Visor hinges, the most delicate parts of the Visor connection to the Shell, are exposed to foreign bodies like dust, rain and any other small bodies that might impact the helmet during normal use.

Such assembling areas for the visor hinges are responsible for the proper visor functioning. The fact that dust and water could get into the mechanism hinged areas implies in the long term the risk of hinges malfunctioning, causing a malfunctioning of the visor movement.

Main task of the present invention is that of offering a protective helmet that resolves completely or in part the disadvantages non-resolved by the known state- of-the-art designs.

Within the scope of this task, scope of the present invention is such of developing a better fitting between the Shell and the Visor, with particular attention to the hinged areas of the Visor onto the Shell.

Another scope of the present invention is to develop a protective helmet with long lasting visor functioning with regard to the visor movement, being this a qualitative value for users.

Another scope of the present invention is to supply a helmet with highly protected hinged areas against contamination by foreign bodies such dust and against water or other liquids infiltration.

Another one scope of the present invention is to develop a helmet with more stable assembly between Visor and Shell.

This task and these and other scopes, that will be better explained further in this document, are achieved by a protective helmet including a shell with at least one opening, a visor, a visor connecting device, such connecting device consents visor opening and closing in a way that the visor is confronted with the shell opening in its close configuration. A protective helmet including also a trim designed to be in the middle between such Shell and such Visor in the close visor position, such trim characterised by the fact that at least one part of the trim runs along the shell opening perimeter and the connector device perimeter. Thus, full isolation is provided all along the visor perimeter with the visor in close position.

Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention are better explained in the following detailed description, presented in a descriptive way and

not limitative and illustrated in the annexed figures, in which:

Figure 1 illustrates the helmet side view following the present invention in assembly configuration;

Figure 2 illustrates the same helmet shown in figure one but with the visor in disassembled configuration shown the trim component;

Figure 3 illustrates the same helmet shown in previous figures with the trim disassembled;

Referring to the annexed figures, the figure 1 shows a scheme of the assembled configuration of the helmet (1) following the present invention.

This includes a protective Shell (2) with a front opening (3) to allow users visibility. A visor usually transparent is connected to the shell by connecting devices (5) connect the visor extremes to the shell basically by means of a hinged link.

The visor (4) can be open and close by users in such configuration. Figure 1 shows the visor in close position.

As shown in figure 2, with visor (4) removed for clarity, a trim component (6) runs along the opening perimeter (7) and continues along the connecting devices perimeter (8). As shown in figure 2, the connection devices (5) connect the visor (4) to the shell (2) by means of a hinged link.

As shown in figure 3, with visor (4) and trim (6) removed for clarity, a trim recess (7a) can be used all along the opening perimeter (7). A second trim recess (δa) can also be used all along the connecting devices perimeter (8).

This way, the trim component (6) can have a sound and solid assembly in the helmet by inserting the trim into the trim recess (7a) and the second trim recess (8a). The assembly can be made by interference, by gluing or by means of any other type of connecting devices.

Such trim (6) can by a one-peace component running all along the opening perimeter (7) and continue all along the connecting devices perimeter (8).

A second possibility is to have two-peaces trim (6). A first string (6a) running along the opening perimeter (7), and a second one (6b) running along the connecting devices perimeter (8). The two of both strings finishing in the discontinuity points (11) and (12)

In a third possible option for the helmet (1) following the present invention, the trim (6) can be made in two-peaces. A first string (6a) can be a continuous component running all along the opening perimeter (7), in a way that also follows the opening side edges (3c), as shown in figure 3. In the same way, the second string (6b) running along the connecting devices perimeter (8) can be or open, with an edge of the perimeter (8) open as shown in figure 2, or closed running all along the connecting devices perimeter (8). Obviously, different combinations derived from the different combinations of the possible realisation ways shown here only with illustration purposes, will be also considered within the protection field of the present invention as defined by the attached claims.

This way has been shown how the present invention achieves the proposed scopes and tasks.

In particular, it has been shown how to obtain a protective helmet in which the fitting between shell and visor has been improved.

The use of a trim in the connection devices reduces the tolerance between shell and visor in the visor close position.

Finally, the full perimeter isolation in the visor close position protects from materials infiltration such air, water, dust or any other material that could compromise the functioning of the visor connecting devices.

A large number of modifications and versions can be developed by sector experts but within the protection of the present invention.

Therefore, the protection scope of claims can not be limited by the illustrations or by the preferred developments shown in the descriptions in its form of examples. The claims must include all innovative characteristics that can be patented, derived from the present invention, including all characteristics that can be

considered similar by sector experts and technicians.
