Abstract:
Due to a nanowire of a hexaboride metal such as LaB6, with a metallic terminal (100) face formed on a leading end thereof, having a small work function, it is possible to radiate a very narrow electron beam from this terminal (100) face. If used at low temperatures, however, contamination accumulates in a very short time, and output current declines greatly. Provided is a cold field emitter which operates stably over extended periods of time by stabilization processing of the metallic terminal (100) face of the leading end, wherein said metallic terminal (100) face is exposed to hydrogen at a low temperature.
