Abstract:
[Problem] To provide: a boron nitride powder which has a relatively small particle size, which has a significantly reduced amount of metal impurities existing on the surface thereof, and in which high purification is achieved at a high level; and a method for producing said boron nitride powder. [Solution] This hexagonal boron nitride powder has an average particle diameter (D50) of 2.0-6.0 μm and has a specific surface area of 4-12 m2/g as measured by a BET method. On the surfaces of hexagonal boron nitride particles forming the powder, the concentration of calcium elements is 1 ppm or less, the concentration of silicon elements is 5 ppm or less, the concentration of sodium elements is 5 ppm or less, and the concentration of iron elements is 1 ppm or less. The average aspect ratio (major axis/thickness) of the powder is preferably 1-7. The hexagonal boron nitride powder is useful as a filler for resins.
