Title:
HIGH-LIFT, LOW-DRAG, STALL-RESISTANT AIRFOIL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2005067413
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
Method and apparatus embodiments of the present invention are disclosed wherein wing-rotor configurations having rotors (220) passing within arcuate cut-outs (108) of an airfoil (102) provide aerodynamically high lift, low-drag capabilities including high stall angles via the placement of the center of rotor rotation (122) aft of the chord (124) of the arcuate cut-out (108) co-linear with the trailing edge (106) of the wing. In addition, wing-rotor-propeller configurations (1010, 1340) provide aerodynamically high lift, low-drag and forward thrust capabilities for all vehicles moving through gaseous fluids and particularly including applications for air vehicles and watercraft. Also, wing leading edge air-blowing systems (801) augment the example configurations for enhanced performance including substantially vertical take-off and landing of air vehicules.
