Abstract:

A scroll type compression mechanism (15) is formed with a communication passageway (46) to which a delivery port (49) opens to allow a refrigerant compressed by the compression mechanism (15) to flow out into a clearance space (18) defined between the compression mechanism (15) and a drive motor (16). The compression mechanism (15) is formed with a muffler space (45) communicating with the communication passageway (46) for muffling the operation sound. A motor cooling passageway (55) is formed between the drive motor (16) and the inner surface of a casing (10) to allow the circulation of the working fluid flowing out into the clearance space (18). A guide plate (58) is disposed in the clearance space (18). The guide plate (58) is formed with a flow-dividing recess for allowing part of the refrigerant flowing toward the motor cooling passageway (55) to peripherally flow and to flow toward the inner end (36) of a delivery pipe (20) positioned in the clearance space (18).
