Disclosed is a high pressure pump, comprising a body (10) provided with a piston cavity (11). A valve assembly (40) is provided at one end of the piston cavity (11), and a piston (20) is slidably accommodated in the other end of the piston cavity (11); an outer end of the piston (20) is connected to a push rod (30); a first recess (21) is circumferentially provided in an outer side wall of the piston (20); two ends of the first recess (21) respectively abut against an inner side wall of the piston cavity (11) in an elastic deformation manner; an outer end face of the piston (20) is provided with an installation groove (22); the end, opposite the piston (20), of the push rod (30) is provided with a connection rod (31); an outer end face of the connection rod (31) is provided with a clamping member (32); the external diameter of the clamping member (32) is greater than the internal diameter of the installation groove (22); the connection rod (31) is inserted into the installation groove (22) in a cooperative manner; and the clamping member (32) is in interference fit with the bottom of the installation groove (22). The push rod (30) and the piston (20) are securely connected and are easy to assemble and disassemble, and the requirement for the manufacturing precision of the piston (20) is relatively low. Further disclosed is a high pressure pumping method.
