Abstract:
Provided is a mass spectrograph that uses a superconducting stripline detector (SSLD) as the detector thereof, wherein the valences of the ions to be detected are discriminated. A set of a plurality of mass spectra, which comprises all the ions that are univalent or higher, all the ions that are bivalent or higher, all the ions that are tervalent or higher (and followed by ions having successively higher valences) are obtained by measuring mass spectra successively while decreasing the bias current flowing into the superconducting stripline detector. Then, data of just the univalent ions can be obtained, by subtracting data of all the ions that are bivalent or have a higher valence from data comprised of all the ions that are univalent or have a higher valence. In a similar manner, data of just the bivalent ions, data of just the tervalent ions (and similarly, in succession for multivalent ions) can also be obtained. In such a way, ions having different valences but having the same mass/electric-charge ratio have become able to be detected in distinction, in a mass spectrograph using, as the detector thereof, a superconducting stripline detector that generates high-speed pulses in the order of nanoseconds for collisions of particles such as ions.
