Abstract:

A high strength propeller shaft, wherein power transmission parts are connected to both ends of a steel pipe with a tensile strength of 700 N/mm² or higher, a balance piece is welded to the peripheral surface of the steel pipe and, to increase a proof torsional fatigue characteristic, a plastic deformation area is formed at the back of the welded part of the balance piece by, for example, a peening treatment with ultrasonic vibration.
