Abstract:
A water driven impulse turbine (21) has a barrel (28) rotatably mounted upon an axle (40), with a plurality of runner blades (26) extending tangentially from the barrel (28). Side plates (27) secure the runner blades (26) on opposite sides thereof. A breastplate (22) is maintained in concentric juxtaposition with the wheel so defined. A penstock (31) is interposed between a water source (29) and the breastplate (22) to pass water into the runner blades (26). The turbine (21) may consist of a plurality of axially interconnected wheel sections of similar or dissimilar nature to optimize performance.
