Abstract:
A hill start assistance device is applied to an idling vehicle in which an engine (10) is automatically stopped when a brake pedal (32) is depressed by a driver during travel and the speed of the vehicle falls below a predetermined speed. The hill start assistance device is provided with: a restart impossibility determination unit (11) that, while the engine is automatically stopped, attempts to restart the engine by the driver releasing the brake pedal, and determines whether or not restarting of the engine has failed or is forbidden; and a first braking power retaining unit (40) for continuously retaining first braking power generated by the brake pedal being depressed when a positive determination is made by the restart impossibility determination unit, even in a state in which the brake pedal is released. When the driver performs an operation applying braking force to the vehicle, the first braking force retaining unit releases the retained first braking force.
