Hinge for a roof window with a pivot sash
The present invention concerns a hinge for a roof window with a pivot sash, equipped with a slidable fastener for screw fastening an external covering member to a side window member.
On the external side the roof windows are equipped with covering members, usually made of metal, which protect a window frame and a sash against unfavourable influence of atmospheric conditions. In the case of windows with a pivot sash which have the rotation axis between the top and the bottom window frame member two covering members are used, which are secured to the window side members, one of them is above and the other one below the rotation axis of the sash.
Side covering members are most often screw fastened and have holes for securing screws at both ends, at the same time the hole spacing is constant. In the side members of a roof window the holes for securing screws which are located near the top member of a window frame and the bottom member of a sash are usually made in securing sockets provided at both ends of the side members of a window whereas near the rotating axis of the sash, the holes for securing screws are located in fasteners constituting a part of the pivot hinge.
A hinge for a roof pivot window is known (WO/0131155), which comprises a hinge part secured to a window frame and a hinge part secured to a sash of a window. Each hinge part has a base plate for securement by fastening screws through screw holes. One side of the base plate has additional means for securing the plate to a window frame or a sash and the other side of the base plate has members enabling pivoting of the base plates relative to each other. Additionally each base plate has at one end a fastener with a screw hole for securing side covering members near
the rotation axis of a sash. The fastener constitutes a monolithic element of the base plate of a fixed position.
A hinge for a roof window with a pivot sash (WO/2006002633), equipped with two fasteners with screw holes is known. One fastener is snap fastened in a holder constituting a monolithic member of the base plate secured to a sash and the other one constitutes a monolithic part of the hinge intermediate member, which is riveted to the base plate secured to the side member of a window frame. The position of the both fasteners with screw holes is fixed relative to the base plates of the pivot hinge.
A hinge used in roof windows with a pivot sash (VELUX), the base plates of which have a single holder each at the opposite ends for snapping of fasteners with a screw hole is known. Each holder is a monolithic member of the base plate. Position of the holders and thus of the fasteners seated in the holders is fixed relative to the base plates of the pivot hinge.
Even though the technological regime is followed, often the hole spacing in the side member of a window is not the same as the screw hole spacing in the cover member. If the corresponding pairs of holes in window members and cover members connected together are not coaxial as required, a fastening screw is screwed in at an angle other than 90°. This hinders assembly work and affects the aesthetic qualities of connection of the cover members to the side members of a window.
As follows from experience, securing cover members to side members of a window with fastening screws put into fixed holes causes assembly problems.
An object of the present invention is to eliminate this inconvenience by equipping a pivot roof window with hinges having fasteners slidable
lengthwise to the side member of a window, which always enable coaxial setting of the hole in the fastener relative to the hole in the cover member during securing these members with a screw.
A hinge for pivot roof windows, according to the present invention, comprises two hinge parts, one hinge part secured to a window frame, and the other one secured to the side member of a sash. Each hinge part has a base plate fitted on one side with securing means and on the other side with means performing pivoting of the base plates relative to each other, at the same time a hinge is equipped with at least one fastening unit comprising an arm, being an extension of a base plate and a slide fastener with a hole perpendicular to the fastener slide direction secured to this arm. If a hinge has only one fastening unit which constitutes a part of one base plate, the other base plate is equipped with the known fixed fastener.
A hinge for roof windows according to the present invention is presented in examples of the embodiment on the drawing where fig. 1 and 2 show two side views of a hinge part mounted to a window frame, fig. 3 and 4 show two side views of a hinge part mounted to a sash of a window, in the first embodiment example; in the second embodiment example fig. 5 and 6 show two side views of a hinge part mounted to a window frame, fig. 7 and 8 show two side views of a hinge part mounted to a sash of a window; in the third embodiment example fig. 9 and 10 show two side views of a hinge part mounted to a window frame, fig. 11 and 12 show two side views of the hinge part mounted to a sash of a window whereas fig. 13 and 14 show two side views of a hinge part mounted to a window frame and fig. 15 and 16 show two side views of a hinge part mounted to a sash of a window in the fourth embodiment example.
