Abstract:
A dummy (10) for practicing hockey checking composed of a base (12), an upper body (14), and a mechanism for controlling the dummy's motion. The generally cylindrical base has a foundation (20), an upwardly-extending column (22), and is weighted (28). A torso (42) and a head (44) are composed of a hard but resilient material. Rolled foam arms (66) optionally have bendable wires for retaining the arms in a desired position. The upper body is covered with standard hockey clothing and equipment (62) and a stick (64) is secured to the gloves. The height of the dummy (10) is adjustable by sliding and locking the base (12) and upper body columns (14) relative to each other. The undersurface of the base is smooth or has wheels or knobs in order to easily slide along the playing surface.
