The invention relates to a holding device for food, in particular in the form of a spatula. It is known to provide a spatula with an additional gripping surface (4), causing the spatula to take on the form of tongs, wherein the gripping surface (4) is arranged on a gripping leg (3) in the form of an upper fork which can be set against the support surface (1) of the spatula. The known holding devices have the disadvantage that, after the holding device is pressed together, there is no longer a planar support surface (1). The invention improves this in that a recess (7) is provided in the support surface (1), into which recess the gripping leg (3) can protrude with its front region such that a planar surface is formed by the support surface (1) and by the recess (7) which is closed by the front region.
