Abstract:
A honeycomb structure (10) comprising two or more honeycomb segments (11) having a number of axially penetrating distribution holes partitioned by partition walls, the partition walls for the distribution holes having a filtration ability, one of the respective ends of predetermined distribution holes being closed, the other ends of the remaining distribution holes being closed, and a joining layer (12) for joining two or more honeycomb segments (11). At least one of the two conditions that the Young's modulus of the material of the joining layer (12) is not more than 20% of that of the material of the honeycomb segments (11) and that the strength of the material of the joining layer (12) is lower than that of the material of the honeycomb segments (11) should be satisfied. The honeycomb structure produces less thermal stress during use, has the durability to prevent cracking, hardly produces a temperature difference between the central portion and the outer periphery, and suffers a less loss of fluid pressure.
