Title:
HOOKBILL WIRE CUTTER
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2000041857
Kind Code:
A9
Abstract:
A hookbill wire cutter (60) specially designed to cut wire mesh components features a pair of opposing handles (62, 64) connected to a pair of jaws (70, 72). Each jaw (70, 72) features an arcuate blade (80, 110) having a flat cutting portion (82, 112) and a tapered portion (84, 114). The jaws (70, 72) are pivotally joined to open and close when the handles (62, 64) are actuated so that the blade cutting portions (82, 112) overlap in a scissor-like fashion. One (80) of the arcuate blades features a notched tip (92) that engages a wire member perpendicular to the wire member to be cut. As a result, the wire cutter (60) may be quickly and easily positioned. The arcuate blades (80, 110) are dimensioned to substantially surround a wire member so that the wire member is sheared flush when the jaws (70, 72) of the wire cutter (60) are closed. As a result, generally smooth and flat cut wire ends are produced.
