A horizontal-flow continuous sand filtration apparatus and a water treatment process thereof. The apparatus comprises a barrel (1), a raw water inlet assembly, a sand filtration bed (4), a sand extracting and washing assembly, and a filtered water outlet assembly; the sand filtration bed (4) is provided in the barrel (1) and consists of filtered sand; the raw water inlet assembly comprises a water inlet pipe (2) and a water distribution device (3); the sand extracting and washing assembly comprises a sand extracting pipe (5), a sand washer (6), and a drainage pipe (10); the filtered sand at the bottom of the barrel (1) is transferred to the sand washer (6) by means of the sand extracting pipe (5) to be washed, and then flows into the top of the sand filtration bed (4) by means of the sand washer (6); the drainage pipe (10) drains sewage in the sand washer (6); and the filtered water outlet assembly comprises a water collector (7) and a water outlet pipe (9).
