Abstract:
A horizontal machine tool (1) comprises a base frame (10) having a workpiece support surface (11c) for supporting a workpiece, an X-axis saddle (20) which is attached to a rear surface (12b) of the base frame (10) so as to slide in right and left hand directions through an X-axis movement mechanism (50), an Y-axis saddle (30) which is attached to the X-axis saddle (20) so as to slide in upward and downward directions through an Y-axis movement mechanism (60), and a spindle device (40) which is attached to the Y-axis saddle (30) so as to slide in forward and backward directions through a Z-axis movement mechanism (70). With this structure, it is possible to reduce the size and weight of the machine tool and enhance the machining accuracy of the workpiece.
