Abstract:
In a horizontal machine tool (101): a saddle (2) that can move in the X-axis direction is provided on a bed (1); a main shaft head (3) that can move in the Z-axis direction, which is orthogonal to the X-axis, is provided on the saddle (2); a main shaft (4) is rotatably supported on the main shaft head (3); and a table (6) on which a workpiece (W) is set is provided in front of the saddle (2). The machine tool is also provided with an automatic tool-exchanging device (7) that has a tool magazine (8) for holding multiple tools (T) and exchanges a chosen tool (T) held on the tool magazine (8) with a tool (T) mounted on the main shaft (4). The automatic tool-exchanging device (7) is disposed above the main shaft head (3) so that a reference surface (8s), which is parallel to the radial direction of the tool magazine (8), can assume a horizontal state that is parallel to the Z-axis or an inclined state that forms a prescribed angle with the Z-axis.
