A horizontally and symmetrically arranged range extender comprising an internal combustion engine and an electricity generator (300). The internal combustion engine comprises a left cylinder (100) and a right cylinder (200) connected to each other to form a crankshaft container. A rotatable crankshaft (600) is configured in the crankshaft container. Two cranks are configured on the crankshaft (600), and connected to connection rods (700), respectively. The two connection rods (700) are connected to pistons (800), respectively. The two pistons (800) are slidably connected to the inside of a left piston cylinder (105) and a right piston cylinder, respectively. The left piston cylinder (105) and the right piston cylinder are oppositely arranged at two sides of the crankshaft (600) and axles thereof are arranged in parallel to each other. A rotor of the electricity generator (300) is fixedly connected to an output end of the crankshaft (600). The horizontally and symmetrically arranged range extender can effectively reduce the volume of the cylinders, and shorten the length of the crankshaft, thereby increasing process convenience and product strength, while enhancing the balance during a crankshaft operation, effectively reducing noise and vibration when the internal combustion engine is in operation, effectively addressing an NVH problem of a range extender.
