Abstract:
Provided is a hot forged steel having high strength and excellent low-temperature toughness. This hot forged steel contains, in mass%, 0.14-0.20% of C, 0.20-1.00% of Si, 1.00-1.90% of Mn, at most 0.030%of P, at most 0.030% of S, 0.16-0.30% of V, 0.015-0.050% of Al, 0.0050-0.0250% of N, 0.10-0.30% of Cr, 0-0.10% of Cu, and 0-0.10% of Nb, with the remainder comprising Fe and inevitable impurities, and has a chemical composition satisfying equation (1) and equation (2), wherein the grain size number of ferrite in the steel is at least 9.0, and the absorbed energy at -30°C is at least 100 J as measured in a Charpy impact test using a V-notch specimen. (1) 0.36≤C+(Si+Mn)/6+(Cr+V)/5+Cu/15<0.68, (2) 51/12×C-V≤0.52.
