Abstract:
The breathing assistance apparatus according to the present invention is provided with a gas supply source, an intake tube, and a humidifier. The gas supply source supplies a gas. One end of the intake tube is connected to the gas supply source, and the other end of the intake tube is connected to a mask for covering the mouth and nose of a patient. The humidifier humidifies the gas in the intake tube. Specifically, the humidifier is provided with a container, a humidifying member, and a guide member for guiding from a humidifying member container into the intake tube. The humidifying member is disposed in the intake tube in a state in which an end part of the humidifying member is inserted in the container. The humidifying member draws liquid in the container in from the end part thereof and causes the liquid to permeate through the humidifying member by capillary action. The liquid permeating the humidifying member is naturally vaporized in the intake tube. A humidifier which is easy to handle and has a simple structure, and a breathing assistance apparatus which uses the humidifier are thereby provided.
