Title:
HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM FOR VEHICLES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2001038152
Kind Code:
A9
Abstract:
A slave operated self-contained hydraulic brake system (10) having an electric motor (18) that is mounted on a gear housing (12). The electric motor (18) moves a threaded rod (46) in a lateral direction. Movement in a first direction results in contact of the rod (46) with a master cylinder piston assembly (68) within a master cylinder (62). Movement of the master cylinder piston assembly (68) forces hydraulic fluid out of the master cylinder (62) to actuate brakes of a towed vehicle. A pressure sensor (86) is attached to the master cylinder (62) and measures the hydraulic fluid pressures in master cylinder chamber (76). Movement of the rod (46) in a second direction is detected by a reverse limit switch (56). Electrical signals are used to control the slave operated self-contained hydraulic brake system (10). The brake system communicates electrically with a brake control board (102). Sensors may be provide information to a microprocessor (104) on the control board (102) to add control features to the brake system (10).
