According to the present invention, a gear pump 10 or a gear motor comprises: a casing 12; a gear housing chamber 14 that is formed inside the casing 12; gears 16 that is housed in the gear housing chamber 14, and that include a drive gear 28 and a driven gear 30, which are rotated while being engaged with each other; a first intake passage 56 that is for hydraulic fluid, that is formed in the casing 12, and that is oriented in a direction perpendicular to the lengthwise direction of a drive shaft 32 of the drive gear 28 and a driven shaft 34 of the driven gear 30; a second intake passage 58 that is formed in the casing 12, that is linked from the first intake passage 56 to the gear housing chamber 14, and that is for supplying the hydraulic fluid from one or both lateral surfaces of the driven gear 30 and the drive gear 28 to gear grooves 60, 62 of the drive gear 28 and the driven gear 30; and a discharge passage 20 that is formed in the casing 12, and that is for discharging the hydraulic fluid out of the casing 12 from the gear housing chamber 14.
