Abstract:
Disclosed is a hydraulic forming method which comprises a step of placing end portions of a base tube inside inlet portions of a pair of molds disposed such that the inlet portions face each other, each of the molds having a cavity with a bottom, the diameter of the cavity being larger at the inlet portion than at a bottom portion, the cavity having a tapered portion tapered down from the inlet portion toward the bottom portion between the inlet portion and the bottom portion; a press forming step of pressing the end portions of the base tube inward using the tapered portions by driving one of the molds toward the other; and a hydraulic forming step of forming the base tube by supplying forming liquid into the base tube while both end surfaces of the base tube are in contact with the bottom surfaces of the cavities of the molds such that an internal pressure is loaded and, at the same time, by driving one of the molds toward the other such that a compressive load is applied in a direction of the tube axis.
