Abstract:
In the provided hydraulic shock absorber (10), a ring-shaped oil chamber (20) is formed so as to have a larger cross-sectional area than a piston rod (40). A dividing wall member (30) is provided with a dividing wall check valve (50). During an extension cycle, the dividing wall check valve prevents oil from flowing from an oil chamber (21) to an oil sump (22). During a compression cycle, due to the difference between the cross-sectional areas of the ring-shaped oil chamber (20) and the piston rod (40), the dividing wall check valve allows oil to flow from the oil sump (22) to the oil chamber (21), but only in an amount needed to refill the ring-shaped oil chamber (20). During the extension cycle, an amount of oil corresponding to contraction of a piston rod oil chamber (21A), and oil to be expelled from the ring-shaped oil chamber (20) due to the difference between the cross-sectional areas of the ring-shaped oil chamber (20) and the piston rod (40), flow from the piston rod oil chamber (21A) to a piston oil chamber (21B) and the oil sump (22) via a single extension connecting passage (60). During the compression cycle, oil from the piston oil chamber (21B) flows directly from said piston oil chamber (21B) to the piston rod oil chamber (21A).
