Abstract:
In a hydraulic travel drive device with an HST, shocks occurring in switching a speed reducer to a lower speed range can be effectively reduced without involving sudden temperature rise in a closed circuit and giving clumsy feeling to an operator. To achieve the above, a closed circuit is formed so as to include a variable displacement-type hydraulic pump (18) driven by an engine (12) and a hydraulic motor (26) connected to travel wheels (30) through a speed reducer (28). As the speed of the engine (12) increases, capacity-operating means (40) increases the capacity of the hydraulic pump (18). Further, in switching the speed changer (28) from a high-speed to a low-speed range, the capacity of the hydraulic pump is temporarily made larger than that in operation other than the switching to a low-speed range, so that a discharge flow amount of the motor caused by increased motor speed is absorbed.
