Abstract:
In a process for the isomerization of C4 and higher molecular weight hydrocarbons, preferably C4 to C6 paraffins with high C6 cyclics content, a C5 to C6 hydrocarbon stream is isomerized in a first isomerization reaction zone (80) and a C4 hydrocarbon stream is isomerized in a second isomerization reaction zone (94). At least one or both of the effluent streams from the first and second isomerization zones (80, 94) are conveyed to a gas-liquid separator (85) which separates a hydrogen-rich recycle stream. At least a portion of the hydrogen-rich recycle stream is recycled to the C5 to C6 hydrocarbon feed stream and to the C4 hydrocarbon feed stream whereby the hydrogen recycle stream is shared during both the C4 isomerization reaction and the C5 to C6 isomerization reaction. The product stream is conveyed to a shared stabilizer (16) which removes the gaseous and volatile components, whereafter the product stream is fractionated to recover the separate C4 to C6 isoparaffins and normal paraffins and naphthenic compounds.
