Abstract:
The invention relates to a hydrodynamic machine, in particular a hydrodynamic retarder, comprising a first impeller, in particular a rotor (1), and a second impeller, in particular a stator (2), which is arranged concentrically relative to the rotor, said rotor and stator together forming a toroidal working chamber (4) with a separation gap (3) and being grouped about a common rotational axis (5). Each impeller (1, 2) consists of a main part (7) and a rigid blading with a plurality of blades (8) on said main part. The working chamber (4) is connected to a fluid inlet (9) and to a fluid outlet (10) through which a working fluid (3) can be supplied and discharged. According to the invention, the fluid inlet into the working chamber is made possible by an inlet channel (9) which allows a substantially radial fluid flow relative to the rotational axis (5), at least the end of the inlet channel being formed by the separation gap (3).
