Title:
HYDROFORMING METHOD, AND HYDROFORMED PARTS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2009/014233
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Intended are to improve the yield by minimizing the discarding allowance of a tube
end, to prevent a clamping wrinkle by loading an internal pressure, to reduce the
number of hydroforming and previous tube-end working steps, to reduce the cost
for a mold by simplifying the mold mechanism, and to sample hydroformed parts flanged
all over the whole length. For these intentions, there is provided a hydroforming
method. In this method, the ends of a metal tube are mounted in a state of being
swelled out from a lower mold. A seal punch is gradually pushed to the end of the
metal tube while injecting a pressure fluid through the inside of the seal punch
into the metal tube, thereby to apply a predetermined pushing force. The pressure
fluid fills up the inside of the metal tube thereby to apply a predetermined internal
pressure. With the internal pressure and the pushing pressure being applied,
an upper mold is then lowered to clamp and deform the tube end out of the mold, thereby
to finish the working. Alternatively, after the clamping step, the internal
pressure in the metal tube rises to finish the working. Further provided is a
hydroformed part, which is so worked by that method as to have a flange all over
the whole length in the longitudinal direction.
