Abstract:
Provided are: a hydrogen-generating agent which has, formed on the surface thereof, a specific water content controlling layer, and therefore can generate a predetermined amount of hydrogen rapidly and can effectively prevent the elution of an alkaline component such as magnesium and calcium when the hydrogen-generating agent is added to a liquid material placed in a container; and a hydrogen addition method using the hydrogen-generating agent.

The hydrogen-generating agent is characterized in that magnesium is contained, as a hydrogen-generating component, in an amount of 1 to 40% by weight relative to the whole amount of the hydrogen-generating agent, the average particle diameter of the hydrogen-generating agent ranges from 1 μm to 20 mm, and a water content controlling layer for controlling the content of water permeating from the outside is provided on the whole area or a part of the surface of a core material of the hydrogen-generating agent.
