Abstract:
The present invention provides: a hydrophobic silica powder which has a charge-controllable surface for which separation of a charge control agent such as quaternary ammonium salt is suppressed, and which is capable of imparting electrostatic properties in a suitable range to toner resin particles to which hydrophobic silica particles are added externally; and toner resin particles to which the hydrophobic silica powder is added externally. This hydrophobic silica powder is characterized in that (1) it has a hydrophobicity of 50% or more, (2) an extraction amount X of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a quaternary ammonium ion, a monoazo complex, and a mineral acid ion by a mixed solvent of methanol and a methanesulfonic acid solution is 0.1 mass% or more, and (3) the X and an extraction amount Y of the compound by water satisfy formula (I).
