Abstract:
If it has been determined, on the basis of vibration data from a tire mounted sensor, that a road surface is in a wet state, a determination is performed to ascertain whether a hydroplaning phenomenon has occurred. More specifically, waveforms from an acceleration sensor at the start and end of ground contact of the tire mounted sensor vary depending on whether or not the hydroplaning phenomenon has occurred, and the determination of the occurrence of the hydroplaning phenomenon is carried out on this basis. In this way it is possible to determine the occurrence of the hydroplaning phenomenon in a vehicle.
