An ignition coil for an internal combustion engine is provided which saves space, supplies sufficient secondary energy to a spark plug, and satisfactorily ignites an air-fuel mixture. The present invention is provided with: a first coil (10) provided with a primary coil (11) to which a direct-current voltage is applied from an external unit, a switch element (13) which, in accordance with an ignition signal from an ECU (3), allows or blocks the passage of a first primary current flowing to the primary coil (11), and a secondary coil (12) which generates a first secondary voltage in accordance with whether the passage of the first primary current is allowed or blocked; a second coil (20) provided with a primary coil (21) to which a direct-current voltage is applied from the external unit, a switch element (23) which, in accordance with an ignition signal from the ECU (3), allows or blocks the passage of a second primary current flowing to the primary coil (21), and a secondary coil (22) which generates a second secondary voltage in accordance with whether the passage of the second primary current is allowed or blocked; and high-voltage wiring (30) which connects the secondary coils (12, 22) in series. A spark plug (2) is connected to the secondary coils (12, 22) which are connected in series.
