An ignition coil for an internal combustion engine according to the present invention comprises a primary coil, a secondary coil, a coil case, a rubber seal, a pole joint, a resistor, a coil spring, and a high-voltage cap. The resistor is disposed in a tower insertion hole of a high-voltage tower portion. The coil spring is continuously inserted into a joint insertion hole of the pole joint and a tip portion of the tower insertion hole of the high-voltage tower portion, and is in contact with the resistor. An inner diameter of a base portion of the tower insertion hole is larger than an outer diameter of a maximum outer diameter portion of the resistor. An inner diameter of the tip portion of the tower insertion hole is larger than an outer diameter of a base portion of the coil spring and is less than the outer diameter of the maximum outer diameter portion of the resistor. The ignition coil is configured such that the maximum outer diameter portion of the resistor is received by the tip portion of the tower insertion hole and that a gap is formed between the resistor and the high-voltage cap, in a state wherein the coil spring is withdrawn from the tower insertion hole.
