Abstract:
This ignition device (10) of an internal combustion engine is equipped with: an ignition coil (2) in which a main primary coil (21a) and an auxiliary primary coil (21b) are magnetically coupled to a secondary coil (22) connected to a spark plug (P); a main ignition circuit unit (3) which performs a main ignition operation for controlling the conduction of electricity to the main primary coil (21a), and causing spark discharge in the spark plug (P); and an energy input circuit unit (4) which performs an energy input operation for controlling the conduction of electricity to the auxiliary primary coil (21b), and superimposing a current of the same polarity on a secondary current (I2) flowing through the secondary coil (22) as a result of the main ignition operation. Therein, the auxiliary primary coil (21b) has a plurality of auxiliary primary coil sections (211, 212), and the energy input circuit unit (4) performs the energy input operation by using one or more of the plurality of auxiliary primary coil sections (211, 212).
