A backlight device (12) of the present invention is provided with a plurality of LEDs (17), and a plurality of light guide members (19), each of which has the light outputting surface (19a) having an end portion thereof disposed to face each of the LEDs (17), said light outputting surface outputting light that has been inputted from the end portion, and each of which also has the bottom surface (19c) positioned on the reverse side of the light outputting surface (19a) by being in parallel to the light outputting surface (19a). The light guide members (19) include a first light guide member (19A), and a second light guide member (19B), which is laminated on the rear side of the first light guide member (19A). The LEDs (17) include a first LED (17A) which faces the end portion of the first light guide member (19A), and a second LED (17B), which faces an end portion of the second light guide member (19B), and which is disposed on the rear side of the first LED (17A). The second light guide member (19B) has the supporting surface (19e), which supports the bottom surface (19c) of the first light guide member (19A), and the light outputting surface (19a) in such a manner that the supporting surface (19e) is sandwiched between the light outputting surface and the second LED (17B).
