Abstract:
Disclosed is an illuminating device wherein display image contrast is further increased and power consumption is further reduced, while suppressing deterioration of light use efficiency. The backlight device (illuminating device) (10) is provided with: a light guide bar group (40) that includes a plurality of light guide bars (20) having lengths different from each other; and a plurality of light sources (30), which are disposed to face the light inputting sections (20c) of the light guide bars. Each of the light inputting sections has a function of collecting light, which is outputted from each of the light sources and is inputted to each of the light guide bars. Each of the light guide bars includes a light propagating section (20a) having a function of propagating light, and a light outputting section (20b) having a function of outputting, to the outside, the light propagated by the light propagating section.
