Abstract:
Disclosed is an illuminating device wherein heat dissipation performance is improved, while maintaining structural strength, and luminance unevenness of a light source is suppressed. Also disclosed is an image display device provided with the illuminating device. The illuminating device (1) is provided with: the light source (7); a light guide member (22), which has a light inputting surface and a light outputting surface that is perpendicular to the light inputting surface; a light source holding member (4) for disposing the light source (7) such that the light source faces the light inputting surface; and a heat dissipating member (5), which is disposed on the rear surface of the light guide member (22) such that the heat dissipating member faces the light outputting surface. The light source holding member (4) has a surface that faces the light guide member (22), and a surface that faces the heat dissipating member (5), and the surface facing the heat dissipating member (5) is connected to the heat dissipating member (5) surface that faces the light guide member (22). The light source (7) is disposed on the light source holding member (4) surface that faces the light guide member (22) by having a heat conductive member (6) therebetween, and the heat conductive member (6) is in contact with a heat dissipating member (5) surface that faces the light guide member (22).
