A backlight device (24) according to the present invention comprises: a light guiding plate (20), further comprising a light entrance face (20a) which is disposed on one lateral face, and adjacent lateral faces (20e) which are adjacent to the light entrance face (20a); LED light sources (28) which are positioned opposite the light entrance face (20a); an LED substrate (30); spacers (34) which regulate the distance between the LED substrate (38) and the light guiding plate (30); and a chassis (22), further comprising a bottom plate (22a) and lateral plates (22b, 22c, 22d). Protrusions (20s) are disposed on the adjacent lateral faces (20e) of the light guiding plate (20). Depressions (22t) are disposed on the lateral faces (22d) of the chassis (22) facing the protrusions (20s). The protrusions (20s) and the depressions (22t) are fitted together with gaps (S) disposed therebetween. Leaf springs (36) are housed in the gaps (S) in a compressed state. The light guiding plate (20) is impelled upon the LED light source (28) side by the elasticity of the leaf springs (36).
