The present invention realizes an illumination device for a handheld apparatus, the illumination device configured so that: there is no optical axis offset in the illumination device itself nor optical axis offset between the illumination device and a housing of an attached apparatus; and parts can be exchanged. An illumination device (1) is attached to a housing of a handheld apparatus. The illumination device (1) comprises: an LED substrate (2) having installed thereon an LED (3); and a substrate attachment fitting (10) to which the LED substrate (2) is attached, and that attaches the LED substrate (2) to the housing. The substrate attachment fitting (10) includes, in an integrated manner: an engagement retention part (11) that is engaged with the LED substrate (2) and that detachably retains the same; and a lens unit (12). The engagement retention unit (11) has tab pieces (13), and retains the LED substrate (2) by engaging with the LED substrate (2), in a state where the optical axis of the LED (3) is aligned with the optical axis of the lens unit (12). The lens unit (12) fits an opening for illumination formed in the housing by concave/convex fitting, and has a positioning function in relation to the housing.
