An illumination light source comprising: a light-emitting unit (10) in which a plurality of LEDs (12) are arranged on a front surface of a mounted board (11) so that the primary emission direction of each LED is oriented forward; a circuit unit (50) having a plurality of electronic components (52) for converting electric power supplied externally via a base (80) to cause the plurality of LEDs (12) to emit light, and a circuit board (51) on which the electronic components are mounted; and a cylindrical or bowl-shaped case (70) for accommodating the circuit unit (50). The case (70) is made of a member having insulating properties. The circuit unit (50) is accommodated in the case (70) in such a manner that the circuit board (51) and the plurality of electronic components (52) placed on the circuit board (51) are aligned with the internal peripheral surface of the case (70), and the circuit board (51) and the plurality of electronic components (52) are disposed away from the axis of the cylinder or bowl shape of the case (70).
