Abstract:
This illumination optical system is provided with a lens group, a diaphragm, and a prism unit. The prism unit includes first to third prisms and a rotationally-asymmetrical curved reflective surface having a positive power. The curved reflective surface satisfies the following conditional expression: PYa/PZa < PYb/PZb. (In this formula, Pya and Pyb represent the powers of the curved reflective surface at the positions of a point a and a point b within the reference plane, and PZa and PZb represent the powers of the curved reflective surface at the positions of the point a and the point b within a plane including a normal line to the reference plane and a normal line to the curved reflective surface, the point a representing where the principal ray of a beam, which illuminates the area nearest to the lens group, impinges on the curved reflective surface and the point b representing where the principal ray of a beam, which illuminates the area farthest from the lens group, impinges on the curved reflective surface along an intersecting line between an image display surface and a reference plane defined as the plane formed by the ray passing through the center of the lens group and the diaphragm in the prism unit.)
