Title:
ILLUMINATOR AND PROJECTION DISPLAY
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2000/038004
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The color unevenness of the projected picture is reduced and the contrast is improved. A projection display has an illuminator for illuminating light modulating means for demodulating light according to picture information. The illuminator has a light source for emitting light along the optical axis of the light source, a first lens array having small lenses for dividing the light beam emitted from the light source into partial light beams, superimposing means for superimposing the partial light beams emerging from the first lens array so that a substantially uniform light intensity distribution at the light modulating means may be established, and subtended angle decreasing means provided between the superimposing means and the light modulating means. The subtended angle decreasing means decreases the subtended angle of the light beam emerging from the superimposing means and falling on the light modulating means to a smaller value than that of when the subtended angle decreasing means is not provided.
