The present invention provides an image acquisition device, a paper sheet handling device, and an image acquisition method capable of acquiring various types of images and capable of acquiring more accurate high resolution images. The present invention is an image acquisition device for acquiring an image of a paper sheet being transferred, and is provided with: a light emitting unit which illuminates a paper sheet with light of a first wavelength range and light of a second wavelength range; a light reception unit which receives the reflected light resulting from the illumination of the paper sheet with the light of the first wavelength range emitted from the light emitting unit, and outputs a first image signal, and which also receives the reflected light resulting from the illumination of the paper sheet with the light of the second wavelength range emitted from the light emitting unit, and outputs a second image signal; and an image generation unit which generates first image data based on the first image signal and second image data based on the second image signal, and combines the first image data and the second image data to generate a composite image.
