The present disclosure relates to an image capture element, a drive method, and an electronic device with which an image can be captured at higher speed. The image capture element is provided with: a pixel array in which a plurality of pixels are arranged in a matrix; an AD conversion unit which performs parallel AD conversion on a pixel signal output from the pixels for each of pixel columns arranged in the pixel array; and a reference signal generation unit which generates a reference signal that has a waveform with a slope of a certain gradient and that the AD conversion unit references during pixel signal AD conversion with respect to the same pixel signal. When the AD conversion unit performs multi-sampling in which a P-phase period sampling and a D-phase period sampling are performed at least once with respect to the same pixel signal, the reference signal generation unit generates the reference signal in which, among a plurality of slopes in the D-phase period, the sampling period for a second slope is set shorter than the sampling period for a first slope. The present technology can be applied in a CMOS image sensor equipped with a column-parallel ADC, for example.
