Abstract:
The present disclosure pertains to an image-capturing device and an image-capturing method with which it is possible to quickly perform more appropriate exposure control. An image-capturing element is provided with: an image-capturing element in which exposure detection pixels for outputting a pixel value used for detecting the brightness of an object, and effective pixels for outputting a pixel value that is effective for image construction, are disposed in an image-capture effective region used in capturing images; and an exposure control unit for controlling the exposure time of the image-capturing element on the basis of the pixel value outputted from the exposure detection pixels. The pixel value of the exposure detection pixels has a higher dynamic range than does the pixel value of the effective pixels. The present technology can be applied to, e.g., an image-capturing element provided with automatic exposure (AE) control.
