Abstract:
The objective of the present invention is to provide an image capturing device and an image capturing method with which it is possible to generate images in which a difference in appearance due to the polarization directions of received light being different from one another is suppressed, when different images are generated on the basis of light having mutually different polarization directions. An image capturing device (1) is provided with: an image capturing optical system (10); a polarizer (12) which aligns the polarization direction of light transmitted through a first pupil region (E1) and a second pupil region (E2) in a first polarization direction; a first optical rotator (14) which rotates light transmitted through the second pupil region (E2) and aligned in the first polarization direction to a second polarization direction different from the first polarization direction; an image capturing element (100) which receives the light transmitted through the first pupil region and the second pupil region; and an image generating unit which generates a first image corresponding to the light transmitted through the first pupil region, and a second image corresponding to light transmitted through the second pupil region.
