Synchronous display is guaranteed on the receiving side when transmitting a plurality of video streams, which include each of a plurality of image data to be displayed synchronously, in separate broadcast streams. A stream with a prescribed container format having a first video stream that includes first image data is transmitted from the transmitting side. Stream synchronization information is inserted in the first video stream. The stream synchronization information is information for synchronizing, by frame unit, the first video stream and a second video stream, which includes second image data to be display at the same time as the first image data. On the receiving side, the first video stream and the second video stream can be synchronized by frame unit on the basis of the stream synchronization information.
