Abstract:

An image display apparatus and an image display method for providing a display luminance adjustment that sufficiently matches with the human adjustability to the luminance. A display apparatus body (10) includes a display part and a luminance control part that adjusts the display luminance of an image displayed on the display part. A remote controller (50) includes a signal transmitting part (55) that transmits signals; a light receiving part (52) that determines the luminance; and an operation entering part (51) that is used for entering the contents of a control of the display apparatus body (10). The light receiving part (52) determines, in synchronization with an operation entry to the operation entering part (51), the luminance of lights received from where the display apparatus body is located. The signal transmitting part (55) transmits information related to the luminance to the display apparatus body (10). The luminance control part of the display apparatus body (10) adjusts, based on the received information related to the luminance, the display luminance of the image displayed on the display part.
