Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an image display device which carries out an area active drive, wherein deterioration in display quality arising from flicker, haloes, etc., is alleviated. An emitted light brightness computation unit (151) divides an inputted image (31) into a plurality of areas, and derives a brightness when an LED in each area emits light (first emitted light brightness) (32). In such a circumstance, a maximum brightness computation unit (1511) derives a maximum value of brightness of pixels in each area (Ma), and the first emitted light brightness (32) is determined on the basis of the maximum value (Ma). A brightness diffusion processing unit (1521) treats the plurality of areas one at a time in sequence as an area of interest and carries out compensation on the first emitted light brightness (32) of a surrounding area of said area of interest. The compensation of the emitted light brightness (32) by the brightness diffusion processing unit (1521) is carried out such that a brightness distribution within a prescribed range centering on said area of interest extends in the horizontal direction and the vertical direction.
